Capstone: End-to-End Sentiment Analyzer

A capstone forces you to integrate preprocessing, features, models, and evaluation into one deliverable you can show and defend.

1

Learn it

You will pick a real dataset (e.g. product/movie reviews or disaster tweets), build a TF-IDF + logistic-regression baseline, then fine-tune a Hugging Face transformer on the same data. You will compare metrics, do error analysis, and package the best model behind a simple predict function or demo.

By the end you’ll be able to

  • Ship a complete NLP pipeline from raw text to predictions
  • Compare a classical baseline against a fine-tuned transformer

2

Practice

Build both models on one dataset, produce a comparison table (accuracy/F1/latency), and write a short error analysis of 10 mistakes.

3

Build it — your output

A documented repo/notebook with a baseline, a fine-tuned transformer, a metrics comparison, error analysis, and a runnable predict() demo.

4

Prove it — check yourself

You’re ready to move on when you can honestly say yes to each:

  • Justify which model you would deploy and why
  • Explain two concrete failure modes from your error analysis
  • Reproduce your pipeline end-to-end from raw text to a prediction

Do it with AI

Use a free AI tool as your tutor and pair-programmer. Copy a prompt below into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini (for building, try Cursor or Copilot).

The habit: Try it yourself first — a little struggle is where the learning actually happens. Then ask for a hint before the answer — never copy blindly.

  • Understand itClaude / ChatGPT / Gemini

I'm a beginner learning "Capstone: End-to-End Sentiment Analyzer". Explain it in simple terms with a real-world analogy, then ask me ONE question to check my understanding — don't reveal the answer.

  • PracticeClaude / ChatGPT / Gemini

Give me 3 short practice problems on "Capstone: End-to-End Sentiment Analyzer" (my goal: ship a complete nlp pipeline from raw text to predictions), from easy to hard. Don't include the solutions yet — I'll try them first, then ask you to check.

  • Get unstuckClaude / ChatGPT / Gemini

I'm stuck on this exercise about "Capstone: End-to-End Sentiment Analyzer": [paste your attempt here]. Give me ONE small hint to move forward — do NOT give me the full solution.

  • Build & reviewCursor / Copilot

Here is my work for a "Capstone: End-to-End Sentiment Analyzer" task: [paste your code or answer]. Review it: point out what's wrong and WHY, and suggest improvements — but let me make the fixes myself.

  • Prove itClaude / ChatGPT / Gemini

Quiz me on "Capstone: End-to-End Sentiment Analyzer". Ask me 5 questions one at a time, wait for my answer each time, then tell me if I'm right and briefly why.
