Using Hugging Face Transformers
Hugging Face is the de facto toolkit for applying pretrained transformers, letting you get state-of-the-art results in a few lines.
Learn it
You will use the Transformers library: high-level pipelines for quick inference, then the lower-level AutoModel/AutoTokenizer API to control tokenization, batching, and logits. You will pull models and datasets from the Hub and learn how a tokenizer and model fit together.
By the end you’ll be able to
- Run inference with pipelines and the model/tokenizer API
- Load models and datasets from the Hub; batch and post-process

Practice
Use a sentiment pipeline on 10 sentences, then reproduce one result manually with AutoTokenizer + AutoModelForSequenceClassification.
Build it — your output
A notebook running both a pipeline and the manual model/tokenizer path with matching outputs.
Prove it — check yourself
You’re ready to move on when you can honestly say yes to each:
- Explain what a pipeline abstracts away
- Describe how attention_mask handles padding
- Load a model and tokenizer from a Hub checkpoint by name
Do it with AI
Use a free AI tool as your tutor and pair-programmer. Copy a prompt below into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini (for building, try Cursor or Copilot).
The habit: Try it yourself first — a little struggle is where the learning actually happens. Then ask for a hint before the answer — never copy blindly.

I'm a beginner learning "Using Hugging Face Transformers". Explain it in simple terms with a real-world analogy, then ask me ONE question to check my understanding — don't reveal the answer.

Give me 3 short practice problems on "Using Hugging Face Transformers" (my goal: run inference with pipelines and the model/tokenizer api), from easy to hard. Don't include the solutions yet — I'll try them first, then ask you to check.

Here is my work for a "Using Hugging Face Transformers" task: [paste your code or answer]. Review it: point out what's wrong and WHY, and suggest improvements — but let me make the fixes myself.
- Prove itClaude / ChatGPT / Gemini
Quiz me on "Using Hugging Face Transformers". Ask me 5 questions one at a time, wait for my answer each time, then tell me if I'm right and briefly why.
